Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how SameNotes ("SameNotes", "we", "us") handles information when you use samenotes.com (the "Site"). SameNotes is the operator of the Site and is based in Serbia. We can be reached at info@samenotes.com.

We are committed to collecting as little data as possible. SameNotes is a place to find and compare fragrances - not an advertising business. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

What we collect

Usage analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights to understand aggregate traffic and site performance (for example, page views and load times). This is cookieless and does not identify you personally.

Affiliate click events. When you click a "Buy" link to a retailer, we log that the click happened - the link involved, the page you clicked from, and a timestamp. This is used to understand which recommendations are useful and to reconcile commissions. It is not linked to your identity.

Search activity (aggregate). We may keep an anonymized record of search terms entered on the Site to improve our suggestions. This does not include your IP address and is not linked to you.

Account information (only if you sign in). Browsing SameNotes never requires an account. If we introduce community voting, signing in (via Google or an email sign-in link) will collect your email address solely to manage your account, your votes, your tasting-note comments, and any match suggestions you submit. You can ask us to delete your account and this content at any time.

We do not collect payment information - purchases happen on third-party retailer sites, under their own terms and privacy policies.

Cookies

The Site does not use advertising or tracking cookies, and our analytics are cookieless. If you sign in (once accounts exist), we use a single necessary cookie to keep you signed in. Retailers you click through to (such as FragranceX, Jomashop and others) may set their own cookies on their websites; those are governed by the retailers' policies.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of providers who process data on our behalf:

• Vercel - website hosting and cookieless analytics.
• Supabase - database and (where applicable) authentication.
• Affiliate networks and retailers - we participate in affiliate programs through Commission Junction (CJ) and link to retailers such as FragranceX and Jomashop, so referral clicks can be tracked and commissions reconciled. We may work with additional networks or retailers over time and will keep this section current. Junction, ShareASale, FragranceX, Dossier, and Notino, used to track referral clicks and commissions.
• Google Search Console - to monitor how the Site appears in search.
• Resend - sends transactional sign-in emails (magic links) on our behalf.

We do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone.

Affiliate disclosure

SameNotes is a community-driven platform. We may earn a commission when you buy through our links, at no extra cost to you. This never changes our rankings.

Legal bases (EU / UK)

Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process data on the basis of our legitimate interests - running and improving the Site, understanding aggregate usage, and reconciling affiliate commissions - and, for any account you create, to perform our agreement with you. Our cookieless analytics and anonymized logs are designed to be low-impact and not to identify you.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data:

• EU / UK (GDPR, UK GDPR): access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, and data portability.
• California (CCPA/CPRA): the right to know, to delete, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information.

To exercise any of these rights, email info@samenotes.com. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Data retention

We keep data only as long as needed for the purposes above. Analytics are aggregated; click logs are kept for a limited period; account data (if any) is kept until you delete your account.

International processing

SameNotes is operated from Serbia and uses providers that may process data in the EU and the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

Children

The Site is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above.
